Privacy Policy for Eli12 Chrome Extension
Last Updated: January 27, 2026
Eli12 is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data when you use our Chrome extension.
Data Collection
Eli12 processes the following data to provide its services:
- Webpage Content: We temporarily process the text content from webpages you choose to simplify. This content is sent to our Cloudflare Worker for AI analysis.
- User Preferences: Quiz answers and onboarding status are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
- Cache Data: Analysis results are cached locally in your browser to improve performance and reduce API calls.
- No Personal Information: We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or any personally identifiable information.
How We Use Your Data
- AI Analysis: Webpage content is sent to our Cloudflare Worker, which uses AI (Claude/OpenAI/Grok) to generate simplified explanations, quiz questions, and summaries.
- Performance: Analysis results are cached locally to avoid redundant processing and provide faster responses.
- No Sharing: We do not sell, share, rent, or trade your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
- No Tracking: We do not use cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts to monitor your browsing behavior.
Data Retention
- Temporary Processing: Webpage content sent to our worker is processed in real-time and is not stored permanently on our servers.
- Local Cache: Cached analysis results are stored in your browser for up to 30 days to improve performance. Old cache entries are automatically cleared.
- User Preferences: Quiz answers and onboarding status remain in your browser storage until you manually clear them.
Third-Party Services
Eli12 uses the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare Workers: Hosts our backend API that processes your requests.
- AI Providers (Anthropic/OpenAI/xAI): Process webpage content to generate simplified explanations. These providers have their own privacy policies and terms of service.
We do not control how these providers handle data. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies:
